Stony Creek Brewery Wedding | Tyler and Liz | Summer 2022

Tyler and Liz’s Stony Creek Brewery Wedding was a day years in the making. Liz and Tyler met in college and tied the knot after a long courtship (based on speeches). I remember meeting them on zoom like I have met most couples over the last couple of years. It was a Sunday for me so I was in my Sunday best sweats and a Yankee cap, but thanks to our bond over Jersey and the Bronx they understood.

Tyler and Liz are both architects, as well as many in the bridal party, so they chose where to have their wedding based on the buildings. They got ready at the newest New Haven hotel: Hotel Marcel which is right next to the IKEA. The hotel is a modern gem in the heart of the city, and I can see why they chose to start their day there. Even if the process of putting the blinds up and down was a little tricky to figure out it was a great canvas for getting ready photos and some portraits.

They did a first look on the ninth floor which had some amazing angles and shapes. They were also joined by their dog Zola, who was very happy to see her parents. We then hopped on the bus and headed over to the venue for more photos next to an industrial building with green window panels that matched the bridesmaids’ dresses perfectly.

The ceremony space was decorated in a way that felt homey, which helped the wedding feel intimate at a public brewery on a beautiful fall/summer Saturday. Their ceremony involved a special ceremony where they share some whiskey from a two-handled mug. I thought it was a beautiful way to involve family heritage in their day.

After some family photos, we squeezed in some more couples portraits as the sun was setting. We headed to the dock where they were cheered on by the brewery patrons. The only downside was when we took pictures on the dock someone chose to start their boat, which provided some uninvited smoke on the newly married coupled. Thanks to their first look earlier they were able to join their guests for cocktail hour, which was held in the distillery.

The room where the reception was held was decorated as a family. The reception designer is Tyler’s step mother, who designs weddings here in CT. The centerpieces and place cards were drawn by the couple and made in metal by his aunt’s machine. The centerpieces were based on places they loved traveling together as a couple. The tables were also decorated with terracotta pots, which brought in the homey feel I mentioned in the ceremony space.

They were introduced as man and wife and then they thanked their guests for being there. After dinner, the speeches from the best man, matron of honor, and father of the bride were received with cheers. There were some tears shed, mainly from the best man, but they were all happy.

Following the joint parent dance and the cutting of the cake, which was made by his family member, they danced and drank the night away.

Thank you again to Liz and Tyler for having me be a part of your big day. It was such a fun and unique day that really reflected you as a couple. May the two of you (and Zola) have a greatlife full of travel and love.
