Intimate Riverview Wedding | Simsbury, CT | Spring 2022

Bride and groom in front of the Farmington River for their Riverview wedding

I don’t miss many things about 2020, but I do miss the smaller weddings that I got to shoot. They were so intimate and I got to know more people at the wedding. Devon and Holly’s Riverview wedding took me right back to those smaller weddings. I am not saying I don’t like the big wedding party, but these smaller weddings just hit different, especially in the middle of the wedding boom.

Devon and Holly were actually married during the pandemic in their new home of Washington state (where I actually went to college). Their Riverview wedding was for their family here on the east coast, and really was a celebration for the family. As a woman obsessed with her family (heck my business is named after my family) their day was really dear to me.

Everything was done at the Riverview, starting with the beautiful blue, white, and gold details. The florals were provided by a florist I work with a lot and Elise Floral did it again with her spring garden-inspired floral arrangements. While Holly’s mom Kim helped Holly into her stunning ceremony dress, Devon’s groomsmen helped Devon get the lint off his suit (not pictured).

Even though Devon and Holly were already married, their ceremony still felt like they were getting married for the first time. The reactions were still sweet. I kept forgetting they were already married throughout the ceremony.

Even though this wedding was in mid-May it was so hot that day, so we did family and bridal party photos inside the Riverview’s air-conditioning. We did go outside before the big storm that day to take couples’ photos outside. I am so glad because Connecticut in the spring is the peak season for me (sorry fall).

The toasts were given by the dads (Mike and Bob), who are both very funny and I think they could be the next best comedy duo. The reception was joyful and carried the theme of family throughout. The night went smoothly thanks to Adam the rockstar coordinator at The Riverview. I am so glad they were able to have this day with their family over on this side of the world and that I was able to capture it for them.

Thank you to the Gilberts for letting me capture these memories for you. I am always honored when I get to be a part of such honored celebrations. Knowing how important your family is I am so glad I could provide you with images to remember these people and time in the future.
