A Beautiful Wedding Day at the Delamar Hotel

I love when I get to shoot new venues, so shooting a wedding at the Delamar Hotel was a welcomed experience. It was a beautiful spring day in May. Probably one of the greatest weather days of the year. Though the sun was hot the breeze made the day delightful. I remember pulling up to Andrew’s parents’ house thinking this is going to be a great day.

Meet Andrew

Andrew got ready with his at his groomsmen at his parents home in West Hartford. First, I started with candids like I always do. After pinning, what seemed like a million, the boutonnieres we headed to the back yard for some group shots.

Meet Maggie

Bride at the Delamar hotel

Maggie got ready with her mom and bridesmaids at the Delamar Hotel. She had her details ready to be photographed do I could get right into to candids. We also did the famous robes shot on the grey couch in the suite.

Like I mentioned in last week’s blog post when the couple doesn’t do a first look I will arrange one with the bridesmaids and the bride’s dad if he is there. It was such a sweet moment emphasized with her father’s joyful reaction.

The Ceremony – St Thomas Apostle Church

Andrew and Maggie had a traditional Catholic ceremony at the Saint Thomas Apostle Church. This stunning place of worship was grand and elegant. My favorite part of photographing the ceremony was when I was able to capture the in-between moments. For instance, loved photographing Maggie glance at her beloved Andrew with a sweet smile.

Family Formals and Romantic Portraits

Originally Maggie wanted to have these taken at the rose garden at Elizabeth Park, but due to flowers were not in full bloom yet she switched locations. Her aunt generously volunteered her beautiful backyard, and I am so glad she did. One, because this gave us privacy and space. Second, there was a ton of shade, which is a photographer’s best friend. Last, everyone was comfortable in front of the camera.

The Reception – The Delamar Hotel

As someone who loves West Hartford center, especially the many spots for a good Happy Hour. I was excited to shoot at the grand hotel next to Whole Foods. The Hotel is classic and modern at the same time. I just wish I had cleaned my car for the valet a little better.

While the guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the back patio, we did bridal party photos in the open courtyard. The bridesmaids light blue dresses popped nicely against the green. As the jazz trio played, I was able to capture some candids as well.

The reception had the normal events with one twist. A choreographed s dance between Maggie and her dad. Andrew like 90% of grooms danced to My Wish By Rascal Flatt with his mom. I can sing that song in my sleep now.

It truly was a pleasure to capture Andrew and Maggie’s day… Even if they are Red Sox fans.
