If you are new to GEM Photography you may think this is another traditional Hubbard Park family session, but it’s not. This is the sixth time I have done the shoot that started it all. Every year it has been warm, color-coordinated, and a warmer New England fall day. The only thing that changes is the age of the models (which are the same) and the location.
The very first session was in my actual backyard, but this year we went to my old “backyard”. I grew up in Meriden and lived about a mile away from the park yet this was the first time I had ever done a session there. It was nice to take the girls to this park because this business is founded on family, so it is a wonder that it took so long to do this session here.
The Session
I always call this the session that started it all because it was a backyard session with my nieces for my sister to make Christmas cards and we have done it every year for the birthday of GEM, which is today, ever since. Every year we pick outfits together, go out to eat after for their payment for “modeling”, and my sister has stayed home so they don’t act up (kids hehehehe) This session also has shown how I have grown as a photographer over the years.
Hubbard Park Family Session Details
We started at the bridge where you normally find tons of daffodils in the spring. This time of year it’s piles of colored leaves. We took photos by where people like to feed the ducks near this little brick house.
After the pond, we headed up to Castle Craig (which is basically a tower) once the sun started to set. I have to admit I have been up there many times but for some reason, it looked extra pretty that evening. The wind picked as soon as we reached the top, which provided some stunning windblown Beyonce vibe photos.
After the trek down the cliff, we took some pics in other various spots in the park. Highlighted by the classic fall event: throwing of the leaves.
This year has been, well yal know… But I love that I get to celebrate another year of business with a session of these two.
